HAPP 45P VS 45Pi (inverted cylinders)

The differences between the 45P and 45Pi are relatively minor, and for many customers the choice comes down to personal preference. Both are very high-quality hoists that deliver excellent performance and reliability.

All 45 models feature a direct-drive design, using a single hydraulic cylinder in each column rather than a chain-over-yoke system like other models. The cylinders are plunger-style, meaning they are oil-filled from top to bottom and do not require piston seals—only a wear sleeve. The main seals at the cylinder entry point are larger and more robust than those found on many other lift designs.

Both models have identical lifting speeds and are available with optional 300 mm or 600 mm column extensions for customers working on taller vehicles such as vans.

They have common HAPP features of:

  • Both have been fully analysed structurally and tested to Australian Standards at the 4.5T Safe Working Load (SWL).
  • 240V/ 15Amp plug with a 1m fly lead, (415V is available as an option).
  • 2 limit switches; 1 in the column to avoid over pressure and 1 on the cross bar for height protection.
  • Lever operated lowering for more control.
  • 70 + 100mm adaptors with dual stage screw up pads.
  • Gen 2.1 arms and columns/ carriage designed for 4.5T SWL.
  • They look the same as our 4T models but the steel grades have been changed and other minor changes.

What is the functional difference?
The HAPP45P has the chrome rod of the cylinder at the top and the larger steel casing at the bottom. Pushing the yellow carriage from the top with the rod to lift.

What is the advantage of using one over the other, aside from personal preference?
Simply put, the 45Pi is best for seal life and for preventing moisture from entering the cylinder, making it the preferred choice for those looking to maximize seal longevity. The 45P is better suited to users who do a lot of welding and cutting underneath vehicles.

HAPP45Pi; medium and heavy vehicles can be loaded from both directions, due to having symmetrical arms. While the 45P has asymmetrical.

HAPP45P; You can load small / light vehicles from either direction, medium weight and larger vehicles can be loaded from both directions by swapping arms from front to back.

Why do we suggest this difference?
The HAPP45P; having the rod at the top helps protect it from weld spatter and sparks when raised. While it uses high-quality seals, the design creates a flat surface where the rod enters the cylinder body. This can allow water to pool and potentially be drawn into the cylinder during operation.

It is important to note that water can pass hydraulic seals more easily than oil, due to its lower viscosity.

The 45Pi; pushes the yellow carriage from the bottom, using the cylinder body. It is generally considered better for seal life because the seals remain lubricated by hydraulic oil at all times.

It is more resistant to moisture ingress, as the seals are located at the bottom of the cylinder body, meaning water on the rod must travel against gravity to reach them. Additionally, there is no flat surface for water to pool where the rod enters the cylinder.
